Lead Work

Flashings, valleys and lead detailing fitted and repaired to keep water out of the junctions where roofs fail most often.

Getting the detail right at every junction

Most roof leaks start at the joints, not the open slopes — chimneys, valleys, abutments and dormer edges all rely on lead to stay watertight. Poorly formed or aged lead is one of the most common causes of hidden water damage.

We form and fit lead flashings and valleys to proper falls and laps, so water is carried off the roof rather than finding a way in at the junction.

How a lead work job runs

01

Inspect

Junctions checked for splits, corrosion and lead that’s moved out of place.

02

Strip out

Failed lead removed back to the roof structure at the affected junction.

03

Form and fit

New sheet lead cut, formed and dressed to the correct falls and laps.

04

Seal and check

Joints and fixings checked so the finished detail is fully watertight.

Common questions

How do I know if my lead flashing has failed?

Staining on a chimney breast or ceiling below a valley or abutment usually points to failed lead. Splits, green-grey corrosion or lead that’s visibly lifted away from the joint are also signs it needs attention.

How long does lead flashing typically last?

Sheet lead is one of the most durable roofing materials and can last many decades when it’s fitted correctly, though fixings and surrounding mortar can fail before the lead itself does.

Can lead work be repaired or does it need full replacement?

A localised split or lifted section can often be repaired without stripping the whole run. Where the lead has corroded or moved throughout, replacing the full length gives a more reliable result.
